Dairy Development
The dairy industry in India is a vital component of the country's economy, representing the world's largest milk producer, contributing over 22% to global milk production. Characterized by a blend of traditional and modern practices, the sector is predominantly driven by small-scale farmers who own two to three cattle on average. The Indian dairy industry is also marked by rapid technological advancements, improving productivity and quality. Despite these strengths, the sector faces challenges including infrastructure deficits, inconsistent milk quality, and the need for better feed and veterinary care.
1. Shwetdhara Project supported by the IDFC FIRST Bank
The Shwetdhara project has been successfully implemented in five districts of Madhya Pradesh—Sehore, Dewas, Ujjain, Ratlam, and Mandsaur—spanning 200 villages and involving over 12K farmers. This comprehensive initiative focuses on improving animal health, breeding, nutrition, and enhancing farmer training and capacity building.
In the past year, notable achievements include providing artificial insemination services to 18K animals, treating 24K animals, and organizing more than 10K training sessions for farmers.
These efforts aim to elevate the productivity and sustainability of dairy farming in the region, ensuring better outcomes for both livestock and farmers.
2. Breed Multiplication Farm
The Ananda Foundation has established a breed multiplication farm in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, with the support of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) dedicated to improving the breed quality of dairy animals.
This farm houses have more than 400+ indigenous (desi) breed cows, focusing on enhancing genetic traits and increasing productivity.
By promoting superior breeding practices, the foundation aims to support local farmers in achieving better milk yields and overall animal health, contributing to the sustainability and profitability of the dairy sector in the region.
3. Farmers training and capacity building program
We have implemented a farmers' training and capacity-building program in 50 villages of Agra district, Uttar Pradesh with the CSR support of Ananda Limited. Through this initiative, over 2K farmers have been trained in best dairy practices and preventive animal health care.
This comprehensive initiative focuses on improving awareness on animal health practices, nutrition, and enhancing farmer training and capacity building.
This training aims to equip farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve dairy farming efficiency, enhance animal health, and boost milk production. By fostering better farming techniques and awareness, we are empowering the local farming community to achieve higher productivity and sustainable dairy farming practices.
Climate Change
In response to climate change, we have installed 10 biodigesters at the village level, enabling farmers to generate biogas from cow dung. This initiative has benefited over 10 farming families by providing a sustainable source of kitchen fuel.
By using these biodigesters, each family has succeeded in saving approximately INR 1000 per month on LPG costs.
This project not only promotes renewable energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also enhances the economic well-being of the participating families by lowering their energy expenses.
